SERVICES PROVIDED TO STUDENTS

Career Counseling
The CDC provides individual career counseling appointments to aid your student in choosing a major, finding an internship, preparing resumes and cover letters, practicing for an interview, job searching, graduate school planning, networking and many more topics.

Career Exploration
In addition to our individual counseling appointments, we also encourage self-directed career exploration. We offer an online assessment called SIGI 3
as well as the What Can I Do with This Major? webpage to help students with exploring different career options.

Gain Experience via Internships and Cooperative Education
Internships and Cooperative Education are wonderful ways to gain experience while in college. Employers look favorably on students who have completed at least one internship during their college career. Most employers use their pool of interns to select full-time employees. We offer four internship databases that list opportunities all over the United States and beyond.

Search for Jobs & Internships
The Career Development Center provides employers with an easy way to connect with our students and alumni who are seeking part-time or full-time employment. Bulldogs4Hire, our on-line database is available 24/7 to employers to post positions and for job seekers to search for opportunities. We also provide links to local, national and federal job websites.

Employer Connections & Networking
In addition to the online job search resources, we also bring employers to campus for job fairs, on-campus interviews, information sessions and information tables. Bowie State University
also belongs to the Maryland Career Consortium which offers several job fairs throughout the year in which your student can attend.

Practice Interview Program
In this current economic climate, practice interviews are more important than ever. The Practice Interview Program (PIP) is open to all BSU students and alumni. This is an opportunity to do a practice interview with one of our local employer partners.

Why take advantage of this program? Becuase participating in a practice interview allows job seekers to become familiar with comonly-asked questions, practice their intervieiwng skills, and receive fedback about their interviwing style. Understand that intervieiwng is a skill that can be perfected with practice. Preparation can make the difference between getting an offer and getting rejected.
