Mr. Batten joined the staff of Bowie State University in the office of Career, Co-Op and International Services in 2004. As a Career Counselor, Mr. Batten assists students with identifying potential careers and preparing proper resumes and cover letters. Mr. Batten assists with the coordination and implementation of Career Fairs and Graduate and Professional School Fairs, and also instructs students in the use of the available electronic career resources such as eRecruiting and the Discover personality profile software. In addition to career counseling, Mr. Batten's primary responsibility is the coordination and management of the university's international student program. He has been approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to serve as the university's Primary Designated School Official to serve and monitor the university's international student population and provide immigration guidance to faculty, staff, and students.
Mr. Batten entered the field of higher education by serving as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Delaware County Community College in Media, Pennsylvania. He then transitioned to federal government service when he served as an Immigration Specialist for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. Batten returned to higher education when he accepted positions with the University of Maryland University College and then Montgomery College as the Assistant Director of Admissions and International Student Coordinator respectively.
Mr. Batten graduated Magna Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Temple University in Philadelphia. He continued his education at Temple and ultimately earned a Master of Business Administration degree.
