Glenda Marcia Crawford

Glenda Marcia Crawford was born to Melinda Crawford and Glenn Mattocks on May 10, 1985. She has a sister, Nikya, who is two years older than her and born in the same month. From a young age, Glenda was always involved in extracurricular activities. At John Burroughs Elementary School she was apart of the Glee Club, a Safety Guard, Treasurer of Student Government, on the soccer team, and a cheerleader. At Calvin Coolidge High School, she played center for the Mighty Lady Colts. Upon deciding which college to attend, she did not hesitate to choose Bowie State University because of the small class sizes. Upon entering Bowie State, she did not always have pride for her school.

It was the reign of Tameka Wilson, Miss Bowie State University 2004-2005, that inspired her to become a student leader. She was Miss Junior 2005-2006 and the Voice of the Students for the Office of Information Technology, where she provided advice on how to improve campus computer labs. She is also a member of the Society of Sophisticated Ladies, and National Council of Negro Women. Glenda ran for Miss Bowie State University 2006-2007, but was unsuccessful, placing 3rd out of six girls with 183 votes. It was Shantelle Johnson, Miss Bowie State University 2005-2006 that always told her to never give up and Jessica Reed, Miss Bowie State University 2006-2007 that always spoke of tenacity. She did not want to give up and decided to run for Miss Bowie State University 2007-2008. She plans on using her title as Miss Bowie State to represent the university to her fullest potential by leading by example, helping young female adults who have lost their way, and teaching the student body how to invest in stocks and bonds and real estate. Glenda believes that "everyone should be thankful for what they have, but never take what they have for granted. Share with those who are less fortunate. No one knows what tomorrow brings."

Brittany Andrea Thomas

Hello future bulldogs, my name is Brittany Andrea Thomas. I am a 21-year-old senior nursing major and I will be graduating in May 2008. I was born on March 26, 1986 in Durham, North Carolina, where I continue to reside. I first visited Bowie State University on a college tour during my senior year in high school and I fell in love with the campus. I applied and I received a full academic scholarship through the university Honors Program. Last year I served as President of Honors Student Association. Currently I am Vice President of the Student Nursing Association and member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Bowie State has proved to be my home away from home, for which I am extremely appreciative. The small, family-oriented atmosphere allowed me to stay active on campus and learn about the African American principles on which this Historically Black College/University (HBCU) was founded.

As you begin your freshman year and delve into college career, I encourage you to stay focused on your academics and make the most of every opportunity.

Welcome to Bowie State University!
