|  Candace "Daki" Simmons
Bowie State University alumnus Candace "Daki" Simmons received a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 2004. A native of Washington, D.C., and a poet and freelance writer, Simmons' work has been featured on a host of online sites, and most recently as a literary contributor for EmPower magazine. She is the author of contra/diction, published in 2004, which is an experimental book of free-verse, untitled poems. The author is currently in the final stages of her second book, Lip Gloss & Battle Boots, a mixed-genre fiction project that is written in a unique way. It includes everything from a silent film to a monologue about a mom who's had enough, movie and music recommendations, and more. In October 2008, Nikki E. Owens, a junior at Bowie State University, received a Milton Pericles Darden III Memorial Scholarship from the Scott Lee Foundation during its First Annual Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards Reception. 
Dr. Krishnasamy's research area focuses on how media affect certain communities, specifically regarding race, class, gender, and feminist research in communication. He has taught courses in interpersonal communication, the role of mass media and society, public speaking, and intercultural communication. He has high expectations for his students and believes that success is not a limitation.
Greg and Laurie Fields met at Bowie State University in 1998 while they were pursuing bachelor's degrees. Both of them were in the Honor's Society and the Ronald McNair Scholars program.
