Barbara Crosby graduated from Bowie State University in spring 1989 with a Master of Public Administration with a focus in healthcare.

Crosby has been very involved in the community, where she was appointed by the governor of Maryland to serve on two boards for four-year terms, in 2007 and 2008 including the Citizen Review Board and the Maryland Medical Podiatry Board.

Recently, Crosby was elected to serve a three-year term on the National Black Nurses Association Board of Directors, installed in August 2010 in San Diego, Ca. In addition, she has received confirmation from the Maryland Board of Nursing for a two-year term to review items for the NCLEX examination, Nov. 2010-Nov. 2012.

She is also involved in changes and initiatives related to the new healthcare reform, and she attends one to two workshops monthly. For the last seven years, Crosby has completed a five-week course offered by the University of Maryland Medical School called the Mini Med School, which discusses various health topics from disease to research and genetic studies.
