The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs' primary responsibilities include seeking, securing, and stewarding external funds from foundations, corporations, and government sources. This service-oriented office handles pre-award and post-award administration for sponsored programs and oversees research and award compliance. Whether locating funding opportunities, providing ready access to important policies, assisting in proposal preparation, or award management, our goal is to offer effective technical assistance to the University community.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) will become an office of inspiration that enhances the well-being of the University community in a changing global society.

Mission

The mission of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is to provide support and the best possible advice to the Bowie State University leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external partners in the acquisition and administration of externally funded projects and other scholarly activities in the furtherance of instruction, scholarship and research, and the mission of the University.

Goals

  • To optimize the pre-and post-award processes for grants and contracts
  • To identify new and innovative methods of obtaining external support for the University
  • To optimize the acquisition of documentation (certifications, release time, cost sharing, etc.) for the submission of proposals and contracts
  • To provide relevant sponsored program workshops and seminars
  • To obtain institutional clearance for proposals in a timely manner
  • To impress upon potential and current PIs the importance of timely submissions of proposed grants and contracts to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
  • To provide databases and other resource materials for funding opportunities for faculty and staff
  • To provide a resource room with various publications and computer equipment for faculty
  • To establish a system that will match faculty and staff interests and expertise with funding opportunities
  • To assist faculty and staff with technology transfer issues
  • To work collaboratively with the Controller's Office and the Budget Office in the administration of post-awards
