Dear Staff Member: I am writing to you at a very critical time for Bowie State University. President Burnim, an economist, recently shared with us that this is one of the most severe recessions he has experienced. As a staff member, you know of the painful financial cuts we have had to make. Every one of us has been impacted. In my 20 years at Bowie State, I have watched the institution grow. We have improved our facilities and campus grounds. We continue to enhance our technology with each new building. And every fiscal year, we continue to graduate some of the finest students. This growth is due in part to your dedication and hard work. I always say the students are the jewels of the university, the faculty is the fabric and we, the staff, are the thread that holds it all together. We make things happen! As the Co-Chair of the Faculty/Staff Campaign for Bowie State University, I am working with the faculty Co-Chair, Dr. Sammye Miller, to do our part to lessen the impact of the budget reductions. Together we are working to minimize any effect these cuts may have on the services or resources we make available to our 5,400 students. Dr. Miller and I have both made our commitments to the Faculty/Staff Campaign. I am asking you to join me by making a contribution today of $100, $75, or $50. I understand that we all have challenges but please know that your gift is important. Every gift counts and every gift makes a difference. The office of institutional advancement assures me that our giving is a powerful incentive for others to give. They are working hard to increase contributions from other sources. Today, I am writing to ask you to join me in doing our part. There are 656 faculty and staff members at Bowie State University. One gift from each one of us will go a long way to ensuring that Bowie State University remains an institution of excellence; an institution that we can continue to be proud of. Thank you, in advance, for your support of this year's annual Faculty/Staff Campaign. Cynthia Coleman
