John Cunningham, CPA, MBA, assistant vice president for auxiliary services, has accumulated significant experience in the auxiliary services and administration and finance fields. He comes to Bowie State University from Virginia State University, where he served as the assistant to the vice president for administration and finance. In this position, he handled the university's auxiliary services (food services, vending, bookstore, copy/graphics, rental vehicles, and conference services), risk management, debt policy/debt servicing, capital projects feasibility studies, and various budgetary and information technology special projects. Prior to serving in that role, Mr. Cunningham was a Sarbanes-Oxley consultant with one of the nation's largest medical suppliers, Owens and Minor, and served as director of administration for nine years with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
He is a certified public accountant and obtained his BS in governmental accounting and MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
