II. Applicability
A. Scope: The appropriate grading symbol(s) shall be used on all graduate and undergraduate transcripts.
B. Eligibility: All full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students.
C. Responsibility: The instructor will be responsible for assigning the appropriate grading symbol.
III. Guidelines and Standards
A. The following grading symbols and other notations shall be used on academic transcripts by BSU.

C. Transcript Notations:
1. "Honors" recorded on the transcript indicates student in the Honors Program.
2. REXC- Courses repeated and excluded from calculation of GPA.
RINC - Courses repeated and included in the calculation of the GPA.
a) Students may repeat a course for the purpose of increasing mastery in a course where such is necessary for successful performance in a subsequent course or for meeting major requirements or for improving their grade point average.
b) No course may be repeated more than twice except upon the advice of the academic advisor and with approval of the chair of the department in which the student is pursuing a major. In any case, only the higher/highest grade received in a repeated course will be included in the student grade point average.
D. Grade Point Average
1. Requirements for satisfactory academic progress are based solely upon a student's grade point average (G.P.A.). This is computed by dividing the total number of quality points accumulated in courses for which a grade (A, B, C, D or F) has been assigned by the total number of credits attempted in those courses. Courses for which other letter grades have been assigned are not included in computing the G.P.A.
2. Each letter grade has a numerical value (See III-A). Multiplying this value by the number of credits for a particular course gives the number of quality points earned for that course. Examples of computing the grade point average are given in the most recent University Catalog.
E. Unsatisfactory Performance
Students with a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.00 fall into one of three categories: Academic warning, probation or academic dismissal.
1. Warning. Any student who for the first time fails to meet the requirement for satisfactory performance will be placed on academic warning.
2. Probation. Students whose cumulative grade point average falls
below 2.00 at the end of a second semester will be notified in writing to seek counseling and guidance from the Academic Advising Center. Any student, who for the first time fails to meet the requirements for satisfactory performance, will be placed on academic probation.
3. Academic Dismissal. Students who have incurred a warning and probation will be automatically dismissed at the end of any semester if their cumulative grade point average falls below 2.00. A student dismissed from BSU for poor academic performance must wait a minimum of one year from the date of dismissal before being eligible to reapply for admission to the University. Students who receive a probationary warning for two (2) consecutive semesters, will be automatically suspended.
4. No student transferring to BSU will be academically suspended at the end of the first semester if his/her cumulative grade point average is 1.00 or higher. After their first semester, the student will be subject to normal standards for academic progress. (This provision does not apply to students reinstated or readmitted to BSU.)
F. Grade changes, excluding an "I" or repeated courses, must be made within one year. The records of all persons who receive their Bachelor's are closed six weeks after the official date of graduation. Any changes to the permanent record must be made before this date.
IV. Result
A clearing system for grading and monitoring student academic progress.
