2. The following represents the Pay Periods from which employees will select their furlough days in the order as outlined in #3. PIN Staff and Contingent II employees who are scheduled to take two furlough days must use Annual or Personal Leave to be paid while the University is closed for the third University Closing-Mandatory Furlough Day. Police Officers will schedule their furlough days through the Chief of Police and Vice President of Student Affairs. All approved days must be taken by May 31, 2011. 3. 4. All employees, including Contingent II, Grant-funded, Auxiliary-funded, and police officers will participate in the furlough. The following employees are excluded: - Contingent I
- Employees on H-1B visas
- Students
- Adjunct Faculty
- Graduate Assistants
5. Staff who must take more than two furlough days should take the initial day beginning with Pay Period #2 in July. Faculty who must take more than two furlough days should take their initial day beginning with Pay Period #6 in August. Additional furlough days are to be taken as designated. The date is selected within the designated Pay Period by the employee and approved through the supervisory channels to the vice president (or president). Furlough days should be prearranged and approved. 6. The last day for taking furloughs is May 31, 2011. 7. Supervisors must not permit an employee to work overtime or allow compensatory time in a pay period week in which furlough time is taken. (Example: An employee has an eight hour furlough day may only work a total of 32 hours for the week). This applies to both the Exempt and Nonexempt staff. 8. An employee may not substitute paid leave or compensatory time for a furlough day. Paid holidays may not be used as furlough days. 9. The President and Vice Presidents are responsible for ensuring that the required furlough days are taken. 10. The Office of Human Resources will forward periodic furlough reports to the Vice President of Administration and Finance. 11. Employees hired after July 13, 2010 will only be required to take the remaining furlough days in the Fiscal Year (e.g. an employee hired on March 15 and schedule to have five furlough days as designated by his/her salary would only have to take the last remaining furlough days through May 31). 12. Employees who resign or retire are required to take a furlough day(s) up to their last day at work. 13. The Furlough Plan will be based on an employee's annual base salary. This will not include overtime and overloads. 14. The Furlough will not impact faculty and staff members' retirement, health, leave accrual or employment benefits. Exempt and Non-Exempt Web Time Sheet - Furlough days must be indicated on your Web Time Sheet with a special code of FURLO. Employees will continue to accrue leave while on furlough.
- The deduction for the furlough days will occur in the pay period in which it was taken.
Faculty Furlough Reporting The department chairs must submit the faculty members' furlough days on the spreadsheet provided by the Office of Human Resources through their Dean to the Provost. Copies will be forwarded to Payroll and Human Resources for furlough deductions. This practice is necessary because faculty members do not complete Web time; therefore, their leave deductions are not automatic through PeopleSoft.
