Contest Period ~ February 2013 thru April 2013 RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs across the United States. During 10 weeks each spring, schools compete in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. Schools report measurements on a weekly basis, and can participate in as many competitions as their program can support. The schools that out-compete the others win the grand prize, taking home the RecycleMania trophy! How Can RecycleMania Improve Recycling on My Campus?- Creates excitement and increases awareness about waste reduction and recycling.
- Unifies the efforts of various campus entities, from the facilities department to student groups-everyone can play a role in helping the campus compete.
- Focuses coordinators' energy on an intensive waste reduction education campaign during the competition, but increases awareness throughout the school year.
- Provides tools and resources to help schools make the most of the competition-such as a listserver, teleconferences, sample posters and signage, use of the RecycleMania logo, and a network of veteran competitors to serve as mentors.
- Offers flexibility to allow schools with various levels of recycling programs and campus population to participate.
- Awards national recognition and publicity for participation
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged participate in the RecycleMania competition by recycling the following materials:- Commingled Recyclable Materials
- All Glass Containers

How Recyclemania works:Each week we will report our recyclables and waste weights to Recyclemania who will calculate our standing in the competition based on our enrollment size, student residential population and number of faculty and staff. Weekly ratings will be publicized to the campus community throughout the competition at http://www.bowiestate.edu/about/sustainability/c4/ and through other venues on campus. We challenge everyone at Bowie State Univeristy to reduce waste and recycle today!
