When you enroll at Bowie State University, you will have the opportunity to develop your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills with some of the best instructors on campus. The department created a six-credit hour sequence based on rhetorical and process-writing knowledge. We also offer preparatory reading and writing courses for students who might benefit from extended instruction.
The Composition Studies Program is home to the annual Composition Studies' Lecture Series and two academic, peer reviewed journals: Journal of Africana Composition and Rhetoric, a journal for educators and graduate students; and Bowie State University's Undergraduate Journal of Research and Writing Across The Curriculum, a journal for undergraduate students in academic writing. We also publish one electronic journal, The Paradigm Shift Newsletter, a newsletter for Composition Studies regarding best teaching practices, research, and events in the Department of English and Modern Languages.
