Understanding Course Substitution(s) The academic program of study serves as the guide to degree completion; however, in rare instances, the academic department or faculty member may grant special permission to enroll or register in a course that is not included in the academic program of study. Special permission is determined only by written permission [1] to enroll or register in a course that is not included in the academic program of study. Written permission can only come from the faculty advisor and academic department chair or the dean of the school, in which the student is officially declared as a major in the program of study that the written permission is issued. No other procedure, practice, or discourse will result in course substitution without the written permission to enroll or register in a course that is not included in the academic program of study. Using your mouse, click on the link to access the course substitution form, which is an agreement of a understanding of written permission to enroll or register in a course that is not included in the academic program of study. [1] Written permission works for courses offered at Bowie State University, but not for courses at another institutions. The "Permission to Take a Course at Another Institution" form is required to enroll or register in a course that is offered at another institution.
