Welcome to the Office of Continuing Education and External Programs. We are a relative new Office formed at the University to provide support for the development, implementation and management of both non-credit academic program and off-campus academic activities. We will be working to continue growing both our unit and this website. We want to make sure that everyone has access to the work that we are doing. I invite you to return to this website from time to time to learn more about our office and to continue to be a part of our growing community. This office will develop opportunities for personal and professional activities designed to advance both an individual's personal and career goals as well as the expansion of Bowie State University beyond the physical boundaries of our home campus. Some of the activities Continuing Education and External Program is responsible for are: o This office works with individuals who would like to enroll into courses for continued certification or personal of career advancement without the entry into a degree program. o We process the non-degree application, work with you on the initial course enrollment and make ensure that you have the tools to reach your educational goals.
o We work with the departments in identifying the sites for offering programs, coordinate the logistics for facilities and assist in identifying the targeted pool of potential student. o Once the off-campus program has become established the Office coordinates the site logistics and requirements.
o This office works with the academic departments to develop and post the course schedule for both terms. o We publicize the course offerings and work with the administration and faculty to insure a smooth and peaceful winter and summer.
o The office will lead the university towards the development of a continuing education curriculum that can provide non-credit courses and programs to assist in the professional develop needs of our extended community.
o The Portfolio program offers students the opportunity to utilize their prior work experiences to satisfy the requirements of coursework. o The program assists in accelerated time to degree by allowing students the option of not sitting through a class if they can document the manner in which their work experiences satisfy the objectives and outcomes of the class.
o The Military Resource Center (MRC): The Point of Contact finds its home in the Continuing Education Office. The MRC is a location for or students who have served or are currently serving in the military to locate answers or a location to network and fellowship with colleagues and peers. o The MRC will serve as the point of contact for assistance in resolving issues and concerns associated with matriculating at BSU. o The MRC will be the headquarters of the Veterans Student Association.
