One way to ensure each student is incorporated both socially and academically into the fabric of Bowie State University is through academic advisement. Academic advisement occurs at least once a semester in the College of Arts and Sciences. However, success at Bowie State often equates to frequent contact between faculty and advisee to maximize the student's opportunities. Each juncture or advisement session provides useful insight into course descriptions, research opportunities, and strategic navigation through the "maze" of academic and social issues that are part of higher education. All advisor assignments are made by the academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students can log on to Bulldog Connection to find out their advisor assignment. To ensure that academic advisement occurs at least once a semester, the Academic Advisement Center can assist in coordinating the advisement sessions. PreregistrationEach semester the Office of the Registrar provides an opportunity for each returning student to select courses for the next semester. Visit this website within the first five weeks of each semester for this important date. Equally important is the appointment with your assigned advisor in your academic department. Note that the meeting with your advisor requires careful coordination, given that many academic advisors serve many other roles in the University. Contact your advisor at least two weeks before the date of preregistration to ensure you are readcy to select your classes when preregistration becomes available through Bulldog Connection.
