Dr. Marie Brown joined the Department of Communications faculty in fall 2009. She teaches courses in the broadcast journalism concentration. For over two decades she worked at WUSA-TV9, the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. During her tenure at WUSA-TV9 she served as Stage Manager, Floor Director, and Assistant Director and for the last 10 years, a Television Director/Producer. Several shows in which she directed received various Emmy awards.  The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter recognized her in 2003 as an Emmy award director for a 9 News Town Hall Meeting which was chosen as Outstanding Public Affairs program.

Dr. Brown is no stranger to the University, she received a bachelor's degree in communications media with a concentration in broadcast technology from Bowie State College in 1988 a year before it became Bowie State University.

She travels throughout the country recruiting students for the department and mentors students pursuing careers in broadcasting. Dr. Brown is a licensed Evangelist with the New Hope Church of God In Christ (Upper Marlboro, Md.), where she was recently appointed Dean of its Bible College.
