Dr. Otis Thomas teaches broadcast journalism and mass media communication courses at Bowie State University. He is the director of BSU-TV and WBSU radio station. Moreover, Dr. Thomas is the executive producer and host for the Minority Male Health Project (MMHP) television show at BSU. He was instrumental in developing a partnership between BSU-TV Channel 74 and three networks: ABC Affiliate, WMAR-TV (Channel 2), to simulcast a weekly half-hour newscast; Urban Sports & Entertainment Group, which airs BSU-TV national games; and the Black Family Channel, a minority-owned, on-air cable channel in Atlanta, GA, which affords broadcast students at Bowie State University the opportunity to submit news stories to gain national exposure. Dr. Thomas has accumulated years of professional experience as a news anchor, feature reporter, public affairs director, host, and on-air personality with both television and radio stations. He has been associated with major television and radio networks such as CNN, NBC, CBS, Fox, and XM Satellite Radio. He has been a freelance news reporter and narrator for Black Issues in Higher Education programs in Washington, DC. Outside of higher education, Dr. Thomas wrote and produced a national video, Short Stop to Success, featuring Ozzie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club. Dr. Thomas earned a PhD in mass communication and culture from Howard University in Washington, DC and an MA and BA in mass communications from Webster University.
