Welcome to the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Human Services.

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in four undergraduate programs.

The department also offers minors in these three areas: Sociology, Criminal Justice, Project Management Cert.

The department offers one graduate degree: a Master of Human Resource Development .

The department is located on the third floor of the Center for Learning and Technology (CLT) Building.

With their emphasis on understanding human behavior and institutional development, these programs can lead students to challenging careers in human service or prepare them for advanced graduate education. Our graduates are prepared for professional positions in government and private industry or given the confidence and knowledge to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams.

Our criminalistics lab exposes students to the latest techniques and procedures in crime scene investigations, while our state-of-the-art smart classrooms involve our students in non-traditional learning techniques and enhance traditional instruction with computer based approaches.

Our knowledgeable faculty and staff guide students through progression plans to timely graduation and make the educational journey exciting through challenging internships in professional settings.

Mission and Goals

Mission

The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Human Services is committed to the University’s mission statement, goals, and objectives. The department is dedicated (1) to providing its majors with general competence and skills in the behavioral sciences and human services as well as specific competencies and skills in their chosen areas of concentration, and (2) to continuing its strong programs in both behavioral sciences and human services, while aggressively exploring linkages between the two perspectives that will enhance research and service to the metropolitan area, state, and region.

Goals

Each of the three units has specific goals and objectives. The general undergraduate goals are the following:

To offer an undergraduate experience in Sociology/Criminal Justice and Child and Adolescent Studies that enables students to acquire skills that enhance their employability in related occupations;
To provide an undergraduate experience that enables students to fully prepare for graduate training;
To provide directions, support, and stimulation to majors; and
To provide relevant service courses/programs to the University community.
