Bowie State Halloween

2008 Pumpkin Carving Contest

By Staff

Once again, Prof. E. Clark Mester hosted Bowie State's annual pumpkin carving competition for art students. This year there were 19 different "jack-o-lanterns" - although that term doesn't do justice to these works. Winners were determined by votes cast by visitors to the show, held in the MLK's Myers Auditorium foyer on Oct. 31. All of the contestants received votes; however, three were the notable top vote getters.

First place went to Nikki Hayward's "Mario," a whimsical view of one of the more frightening monsters in modern culture. Second place went to the beautiful "Tiger" of David Matthew, while third place went to Rhea Blanks' unique "Throwing Up Face." The accompanying photos of these winners should be obvious without captions.

Three Honorable Mention awards were given out as well: Natasha Lee for "The Dark Knight with Joker," Kelley Curry with "Alucrad," and Elizabeth Coursey for "The Cat."
