BSU Homecoming Concert

Artist Fabolous with BSU Students at Homecoming Concert

By Jocelyn Jones

It was a cold and raining night on Oct. 17, but students willingly lined up in the rain outside the Leonidas James Gym to see musical performances by Jerimih, Fabolous and Young Jeezy.

The gym was so packed there wasn't even enough room for fresh air. The host for the evening was Bowie alum Antonio the "Cuban Cigar Smoker" from 93.9 WKYS. Angie Ange and Quicksilver also 93.9 WKYS personalities were broadcasting live from the gym floor. Main Girl, Solo the Don a.k.a. Don Juan and various other artists were opening acts for the night.

Jerimih performed a lot of songs off his new album such as "Birthday Sex," "Raindrops," "Imma Star," "That Body" and "My Ride." In order to impact and further influence the industry as a new artist Jerimih said before the show, "I don't know I just got signed in March to Def Jam and it's been great and I have been able to pull out three singles for my album, ‘Birthday Sex,' ‘Imma Star' and now in rotation ‘Break Up to Make Up.' I hope people respect me and look and respect me for my musicianship and artistry respect me as a new artists and I don't think myself as R&B but I am already working on my new album."

Jerimih went on to say that "music is my first love and I could do it every day. I want to say to everyone out there who are aspiring musicians is to stick with it, don't quit it, you're bound to get it."

Fabolous rapped so many songs that he had done in the past that audience did not want him to leave. He performed songs like, "Everything Everyday Everywhere," "Throw it In the Bag" and the remix, "Money Goes Honey Stay," "Can't Let You Go," "Make Me Better," "Diamonds," "Breathe" and many more. Since Fabolous' new album "Loso's Way" is doing tremendously well, Fabolous said his "future plan is doing some touring in December and help to promote the album to close out the year. My clothing line just switched manufactures and distributors and so the whole fall winter collection is coming is going to be released real heavy the end of the year and yea those are my future end of the year plans and in 2010 and I have some more plans but I will tell you about that later.

The advice that Fabolous offers to up and coming artists who are trying to break into this industry is to, "Definitely get educated about the business side," he said. "Most artists come in kind of naïve. They need to know that kind of stuff --- even myself --- once you get in you have to go back and fix, and rather to do that, I think you should try to educate yourself."

Young Jeezy started off his performance with some club hits such as "Put On, Keep it Gangsta." All and all the homecoming concert was a huge success and each and every student enjoyed being their regardless of the weather and the atmosphere.
