| This year's Annual Creative Pumpkin Carving art exhibition had 18 pumpkins submitted by 17 Bowie State students. Each year, on Halloween, art professor E. Clark Mester sponsors a competition in jack-o-lantern creativity, with the winners determined by popular vote of those who visit the show in the lobby of the Myers Auditorium. The pumpkins are displayed with titles only; the artists' names are not revealed until the winners are announced at the end of the day. This year, over 1000 votes were cast. The first place prize is $100, with plaques or ribbons to those placing second, third, and receiving honorable mention. This year's winners are: First Place: Brad Matthews for "Tiger Love"
Second Place: Alaya Larry for "Pumpkin Eats Pumpkin"
Third Place: Esther Williams for "Demon"
Honorable Mention: Tierra Hughes, "Hello Kitty Witch"; Karen Johnson, "Jesus"; Esther Williams, "Haunted House"; and Artisia Barton, "One Small Step for Mankind" For more information on the annual event, or to view photos of all this year's entries, contact Meiser in the Dept. of Fine & Performing Arts at Bowie State University. |
