This year's Annual Creative Pumpkin Carving art exhibition had 18 pumpkins submitted by 17 Bowie State students. Each year, on Halloween, art professor E. Clark Mester sponsors a competition in jack-o-lantern creativity, with the winners determined by popular vote of those who visit the show in the lobby of the Myers Auditorium. The pumpkins are displayed with titles only; the artists' names are not revealed until the winners are announced at the end of the day.
This year, over 1000 votes were cast. The first place prize is $100, with plaques or ribbons to those placing second, third, and receiving honorable mention. This year's winners are:
First Place: Brad Matthews for "Tiger Love"
Second Place: Alaya Larry for "Pumpkin Eats Pumpkin"
Third Place: Esther Williams for "Demon"
Honorable Mention: Tierra Hughes, "Hello Kitty Witch"; Karen Johnson, "Jesus"; Esther Williams, "Haunted House"; and Artisia Barton, "One Small Step for Mankind"
