Cult: Where Vintage Style Meets Edge By Sarah Hainesworth I hate to give away my style secrets but Cult is too good to keep to myself!Cult is a boutique in Baltimore that, according to its Facebook page, specializes in “fine designer and vintage clothing for men and women.” If you like 80s style and punk rock fashion, Cult is the place for you. The designs are one of a kind so of course you will pay “boutique” prices. That means not cheap by the way, it’s not Target. If you have a sense of style, there is no way you can walk out of Cult without a bag in hand. The vintage clothing and specially made T-shirts will have you spending your rent money and some. You will not be disappointed with anything Cult has to offer. The owner of Cult, who goes by the name of JP, opened the flagship location in Baltimore in 2008. JP works closely with Elina Teran, Eliot Glass, and Art Kutcher – his team of close friends who share their input on everything Cult. JP also works with a group of interns. I spoke with JP about what makes Cult so edgy and different and he said, “We aspire to NOT create or design anything that you’ve seen before.” JP went on to explain that Cult is fast fashion, Cult creates next level garments, they go, and it’s on to the next. Cult is always ahead. When you see the design and dedication that goes into each Cult piece, it makes you wonder where the inspiration comes from! When I questioned JP on what drives his creativity, he stated, “We just do what we want!” Currently, you can purchase Cult T-shirts on their website but I would recommend visiting the store so you can put a whole outfit together. JP would like to expand but for now he’s working on Cult items being sold in boutiques in other cities. In the future, he would like to offer more clothing on the website. Cult is at 817 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201. Call (443) 637-2858 or visit www.salutcult.comwww.deathcultbaltimore.wordpress.com; Facebook – Cult Baltimore |
