| "OTK"By Nikki Osei Sometimes it is all about the college experience. Homecoming week has come and gone and I hope that you have enjoyed the week's festivities, despite the downpour we've experienced. The rain prevented me from fully participating in homecoming activities, but for a brief moment at the Yardfest. I felt the comradery, which is partially the philosophy on which this week is based. While standing in the rain ladies, I hope you were armed with a pair of OTK boots. Over-the-knee boots for those residing under a rock. The OTK boot is an official staple for the fall/winter season. The OTK boot typically falls right below or slightly above the knee. I especially heart the thigh high version, a la Rihanna. Celebrities amongst the likes of Rihanna, Ciara, Beyonce, the Olsens, Halle Berry, etc. have worn this boot. Celebrity stylist June Ambrose twitpiced her Gucci OTK boots last week. These boots are uber appealing because they are sexy, comfortable, and can be incorporated into so many ensembles! The OTK boot can be worn with skinny denim, a sweater and leather jacket, a sweater dress and leggings/tights, shorts, a button up and boyfriend (blazer), liquid leggings with a menswear button up, the list is literally endless. I honestly cannot see a better fit than the last mentioned. OTK boots almost serve as a pair of pants! LOL. You can find a pair of OTK boots to fit your price range. From Charlotte Russe to Payless to Barefeet, there is a pair of boots to tickle your fancy. Of the three, I would suggest thrifty fahsionistas visit Barefeet, as you will find an awesome pair of decent quality boots at a phenomenal price. Key word is "decent". As I say ad nauseum, you get what you pay for. You certainly will not get a pair of show stopping, neck breaking, straight up bad boots from the aforementioned. If you want a pair of show stoppers check out Bakers, Aldo, Victoria Secret, Steve Madden, Shopbop.com, and for the ballers Neiman Marcus/last call, Sax Fifth Avenue/Off 5th Avenue, Zara, Piperlime, Bloomingdale's, and stores of that caliber. I would give my right leg (but how would I wear them? lol) for a pair of Christian Louboutin Button Up OTK boots, but unfortunately my funds do not allot me to blow $1,995, 00. Not just yet anyway. The OTK boot is perfect for those chilly fall days, as you can be super sexy chic despite the dropping temperatures. The OTK flat riding boot is an alternative to the offered platform, though I will always opt for a heel. There is nothing like strutting the campus across autumn leaves in a pair of OTK platform boots. I love the peep-toed version all well. Simply pair the peep toe boots with a pair of stockings and serve. I suggest investing in a pair of $100-$250 pair of OTK boots, as they are an investment piece. Your pockets may sting for a passing second, but you will wear these boots for years to come. They are versatile and really will complete any fall/winter fit. Trust me. Have I ever steered you wrong? If you've seen me/know me, you know I could never steer you wrong fashion wise. lol. Happy boot shopping and may you find the OTK boot of your dreams! Gets to stepping! Rock Star of The WeekWe have a rock star! Isn't it ironic that it is Homecoming Week and our first rock star is none other than Mr. Bowie Bryant Stewart? I promise there is no conspiracy! I just happened to see him and like the classy swagger of his ensemble. Mr. Stewart is a senior history and government major. He was spotted in the Crawford Science building donning a simple navy suit, with a double vented jacket, royal blue button up, navy blue and green pinstripe bow tie and pocket square, Steve Madden black loafer, topped off with Ray Ban glasses. Stewart is involved with all facets of the University and says that he aspires to, "redefine things" and "strives to dress up four times a week." Gotta love that! Congratulations Mr. BSU on being the first rock star of fall 2009. I would love to feature one of the super sassy females of BSU so step your game up and exude a positive attitude and my next rock star could be you! And as you step remember, "A lady should always be classy and fabulous." |
