By Jonaye' Taylor Hey fellow Bowie State fashionistas and/ or Spectrum Online readers, I have a friend I would like to introduce you guys too. I am unsure whether you guys formally met her, but if not she goes by the moniker C. Quinn. Pardon her manners, she is really shy about others knowing her first name so she chooses not to reveal it publically. Anyway, the two of us have known each other for quite some time now, she has a lot to offer and is very jazzy. C. Quinn is always dazzling and trying to outshine others, and I might add that she does one good heck of a job at being a showstopper! She is always out to impress, not to mention she is also a definite crowd pleaser and will never fails to brighten up your day! O. K. So, that is enough boasting about my fictitious friend C. Quinn. If you have not caught on yet I am referring to my all time fashion obsession with SEQUINS! Sequins are fabulous regardless of when, how, where and what you rock them with. They are so versatile and can enhance any casual appearance elevating it to a more high fashion and glamorous look. All the hottest celebrities from Beyonce, Rihanna, Lindsay Lohan (despite her legal issues), Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Rockstar Lenny Kravitz), new American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez, fashion stylist Rachel Zoe, Katy Perry, Paris Hilton (despite her legal issues) and the list never ends. It is definitely a classic trend that is here to stay! Therefore, you may be wondering how on earth you are going to be able to incorporate this sparkling item into your wardrobe effortlessly? Well look no further, I am here to rescue you from a potential fashion disaster! Rule Number One: Never ever wear sequins from head to toe unless you are wearing a one-piece item (i.e. jumpsuit or dress). Rule Number Two: Allow the item to be the focal point of the outfit, so never try to wear too many trends at one (i.e. animal mixed with sequins mixed with metallic mixed with bright colors) because you will look like a ball of confusion easily. Rule Number Three: Sequins are never for the office, yes you can wear them during the daytime to various places (i.e. school, library or wherever you go during the day). However, hypothetically speaking, let's say you work in a creative setting like a cosmetic store (or counter) or fashion boutique where these sequin items are knowingly appropriate, then it is definitely allowed fashionably. Unfortunately, if you work in a corporate office setting then I would refrain from wearing sequins, primarily because it may violate the company's dress code (we would not want you to get written up by not only the fashion police, but more importantly YOUR BOSS). I hope that you will take those rules with you as you go shopping for your items. Personally, I love sequins everything from dresses, gloves, berets, pants, shorts, leggings, tops, boleros, etc. Edgy designers like Balmain and The Blonds are never shy of doing a dazzle-tastic look. Now, a designer like Elie Saab embellishment his evening gowns tastefully with sequins, his work always comes off as stunning and breath-taking without being distractive and fussy. Also, there are several retail options to choose from, continuous readers know my list of stores such as H&M, Forever 21, Wet Seal, Bebe, Express, Arden B., Michael Kors, and Topshop. If you have no luck with these options simply check online and beware of identity theft! Regardless, your decision should be based on whatever you feel comfortable with wearing because remember confidence can make or break and outfit. Now, please be good to my friend C. Quinn I promise you she will not let you down! By the way, what is going on fellow BSU fashionistas, I don't know if it was only for the first week of school, but the uber chicness has already die down. Therefore, sadly there will not be a Showstopper of the Week. I need you for you all (ladies and gentlemen) to get out there and show me what you are fashionably made. Well you fashionistas stay fabulous!
