| Commuter Students Association Hosts Thanksgiving LuncheonGathering Brings Together Itinerate StudentsBy Ashlea Perkins I had the pleasure of attending the Thanksgiving Luncheon hosted by the Commuter Students Association and I must a say it was a treat. Everything from the food, music (Bowie State Gospel Choir), poet, speakers, monologue and host were outstanding. I was for once proud to be a commuter; I could tell everything was well planned and thought out. Everyone was so warm, welcoming and well dressed when I entered the room. We even had to do an exercise where we were told to write on a slip of paper what we were thankful for and a little note to a special friend or family member telling why we appreciated them. The exercise made me reflect on my childhood and how grateful I am to have great family and friends. Also, it made me realize how blessed I was; there are a lot of people living without their families and I'm proud to say I have mine and they are alive and well. Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is over it's time to give thanks and pay homage to a higher person (Christmas). I want everyone to vow and give someone a gift that they wouldn't normally give a gift. It doesn't have to be anything big, expensive or extravagant; make sure it's something from your heart to make someone else feel special. Whenever you're feeling down during the holidays or any other day, just reflect on how things were and how much better they have gotten for you. Until next semester I'll see you guys later. |
