Business Student By Day, Music Mogul By Night

We have a lot of talent here at Bowie State University. Even though some students might be majoring in Business, Computer Science, or other majors, many still have an entertainment flare. Many students here at Bowie aspire to be famous, or hopefully break into the entertainment industry. Many want to be dancers, actors, musicians, singers, and artist. Some even want to start businesses in the entertainment industry. A few are already taking that step towards that direction.

Terrell Robinson happens to be one of those students. Robinson is a sophomore at Bowie majoring in business. At age 19, he's already showing an entrepreneurship attitude in the entertainment industry. Robinson is the founder of record label Good Life Entertainment. Robinson founded Good Life Entertainment in Summer 2009. "I started Good Life Entertainment as a business venture...I've always loved music ever since I was a little kid..." Currently there are four artists signed to Good Life Entertainment. Three of the artists happen to be Bowie State students. Dymique Samuels who goes by "Meekman", Bronson Beverly who goes by Dubb-B, and Eric Smith who goes by Lega-c who's mixtape "The Smartrip Chronicles dropped on Nov. 13. As time goes on Robinson plans to expand and add more artist to the label.

Even though Robinson stays busy running his record label, he stays busy on campus. Robinson is a member of the Entrepreneur Club, CAB (Campus Activities Board), NAACP-Bowie Division, and Bowie Elect.

Robinson recalls what aspired him to come up with the name Good Life Entertainment. "I was one day listening to the song Good Life by Kanye West and hit me that would be the perfect name for my record label." Many record labels tend to be based on one or two genres. But it seems that Robinson wants Good Life Entertainment to be more of a universal record label more like Sony Records. Even though the artist on his label are hip-hop artist, he still open to artist from different genres. "I'm a big fan of all types of music and I'm open to all types of music especially Neo-Soul, R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Rock."

After spending time with Robinson, one thing is apparent: his ambition. He is driven and dedicated in pursuing his dream and so are the artists that record for his label. "What makes us different from other record labels is our drive, were definitely innovative. No disrespect to other record labels because we're still learning ourselves, but some record labels fail to make stuff for their community or their fans and more of the time for themselves."

Some people in the entertainment industry who inspire Robinson are LA Reid, Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, Sean Combs. Robinson sees big things in the future for Good Life Entertainment. "In 10 years, I could see us being multinational, I see us being bigger than Def Jam, Bad Boy, and Interscope. I definitely want us to be able to have a history of success for the years to come."
