| Yes We Can!By Shantel Thorne Since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., there has not been too many influential black man that has had such an impact on American people of all sorts of colors and races. He tried to lead people in the direction of unity and equality of all mankind as well as everyone finding love for one another. Dr. King gave so many people hope of a better life and especially influenced many African Americans to strive for greatness, education, and doing the right thing. Even though there are not that many people around at this point in time that can actually say they were there to hear his famous "I Have A Dream Speech," the values that he believed are still passed down generation to generation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will always live through us. Many people wondered since Martin Luther King Jr., who will be the next African American man to influence greatness on such a large scale reaching so many people and when will he come? I am glad to say that I have witnessed the next historical landmark in time where the United States voted the first African American man as president. Bearing witness to that event and having this experience to me is equivalent to living in the time of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and hearing him speak. Obama is able to inspire greatness among people of all races, religions, and background while at the same time encouraging unity of all people. He united so many Americans and his actions even influenced people to be kinder to one another and help one another. He is living proof that anybody can be anything they want to be as long as they put their minds to it and work hard for it. These two men will never be forgotten! |
