HOMECOMING PREVIEW It’s Time to Get Your Groove On By Jocelyn Jones From the elegant coronation of Mr. and Miss Bowie State University to the rockin’ concert to the final touchdown at Bulldog Stadium, Bowie State University is gearing up for what promises to be a week of enlightenment, entertainment and excitement from Sept. 11-18. The coronation of Miss Bowie State University Michelle McCleary and Mr. Bowie State Matthew Riley III will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday Sept. 11 in Samuel L. Myers Auditorium in the Martin Luther King Jr. Communication Arts Center followed by an invitation-only reception. The homecoming concert will be extraordinary as usual. Great musical artists will bring down the house at 8 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 14 in the Leonidas James Physical Education Complex. From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 15, BSU family and friends will gather for Yardfest on the Dwight Holmes quad. Radio stations will be in attendance with giveaways and contests. Musical artists --- some you know and some brand new talent from the Bowie State University community --- will perform on an outdoor stage. The Golden Legacy alumni cruise will be held at the National Harbor aboard the Spirit of Washington from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 15. To purchase tickets go to www.bowiestate.edu/alumni. Lights, camera and comedy are what you will enjoy at the comedy show in the Leonidas James Physical Education Complex at 9 p.m. Thursday Sept. 15. BSU students will get fired up for the big game at a pep rally starting at 3 p.m. Friday Sept. 16 at the Leonidas James Physical Education Complex. The pep rally will be followed by the student fashion show “Limitless” at 7 p.m. in Samuel L. Myers Auditorium in the Martin Luther King Jr. Communications Art Center on the BSU campus. Game Day is Saturday Sept. 17. Bowie State University’s “Golden Legacy Parade” will step off at 9 a.m. from the Wal-Mart/Ruby Tuesday on Route 301 and end at Macy's in the Bowie Town Centre. And then the Bulldog Nation will jam Bulldog Stadium to cheer the mighty BSU Bulldogs as they take on the Livingstone College Blue Bears at 1 p.m. A campus carnival, Golden 5th Quarter party, step show and after party will round out the day’s festivities. To wrap up an eventful and fantastic homecoming week, at the Goodloe Alumni house (Route 197/Laurel Bowie Road at Lemon Bridge Road) there will be a jazz brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 18 followed by the Gospel Explosion concert in the Leonidas James Physical Education Complex on campus.
