Bowie State Army ROTC Commissions New Officers By Mark Pillor The Bowie State University U.S. Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion inducted three new officers at a commissioning service Sept. 15 in the Special Collections Room of the Thurgood Marshall University Library. Family, friends and BSU officials witnessed the commissioning of former cadets Franklin J. Robinson, Brian L. Clifton and Haja A. Sesay as 2nd lieutenants in the U.S. Army. During the ceremony, the cadets recited the cadet creed and took the oath of office from Lt. Col. Blackwell, commander of the U.S. Army ROTC at Bowie State. Guest speaker Lt. Col. Darryl L. Suggs, an alumnus of Bowie State and the Bulldog Battalion, encouraged the future leaders to remain competitive and continue their course of excellence. After the oath, the new 2nd lieutenants were pinned with their rank by family members and received their first salute from a non-commissioned officer of their choosing. In their remarks, the newly commissioned officers thanked their families for support and encouraged other members of the cadre. The event closed with a benediction and the U.S. Army song. |
