| Gala to Launch $15 Million CampaignBowie State Fund RaiserBy University Relations Bowie State University and the Bowie State University Foundation Inc. Board of Directors will launch "The Campaign for Bowie State University: Believe, Invest, Grow (BIG)," the five-year public phase of its $15 million dollar campaign and the institution's largest-ever fundraiser, at a gala on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Grand Ballroom of the Marriott hotel in Greenbelt will serve as the venue for the black-tie affair, featuring high-profile journalist Soledad O'Brien, CNN anchor and special correspondent, as the keynote speaker, and Jim Vance, NBC4 veteran anchor, as the master of ceremonies. Chante Moore, Grammy-nominated rhythm and blues vocalist, is the guest artist. The university's Office of Institutional Advancement, which serves as the fundraising arm for Bowie State, is spearheading the campaign, which has four key priorities. Explains Richard Lucas, vice president for Institutional Advancement, "The campaign will enable Bowie State University to strengthen its schools and programs, increase the number of scholarships available to students, build the endowment and enhance infrastructure and technology." Lucas also says the campaign will assist the university in telling its story by highlighting the impact of its students, faculty, staff and alumni on the region and country. It will serve as a vehicle for the university to share its goals and core values. It will also contribute to the establishment of an infrastructure and culture to sustain fundraising capability into the future. To help tell the story, the university has enlisted alumni, faculty, staff, students, its foundation board of directors, members of the university's Board of Visitors, friends and business and community leaders. Most notably, two-time Bowie State University graduate William Teel Jr., chief executive officer of Washington-based 1 Source Consulting Inc. and Energy Enterprise Solutions, serves as a campaign co-chair. Teel recently contributed the largest gift to date to the university, which will be announced at the gala. Teel will be recognized at the event along with the other leadership of Bowie State's "BIG Campaign." At the gala, the university will also announce the total dollar amount of gifts it has received toward to the campaign thus far.
