SGA Elections Firewall

By Bekah Oester

A firewall was held on March 31 in the Wiseman Center for the questioning of all students running for positions in the 2009-2010 school year. Students attended to gain more information on who to vote for in the upcoming April 8 elections.

Each candidate running for office briefly introduced themselves before the floor was opened up for questions for all candidates running for Mr. or Miss BSU.  Running for Mr. and Miss BSU are: Bryant Stewart, Dejuan Patterson, Robert Woodard III, Patricia Macey, Shadonna Jones, Chevonne James, Danielle Warren, and Jennifer Wood. Questions ranged from the goals of the candidates to their strategies for recruitment and student academic success.

After questioning the royal court candidates, student government candidates were offered questions by a moderator which had been previously submitted by members of the BSU administration. When these questions were completed, the floor was again opened for students to question any candidate. Most positions only had one candidate running, so the majority of questions were directed towards competing pairs running for Student Government Association president and vice president. Edwin Fenwick, Jr. and Elise Perkins are running for the positions as well as Kirk Pressley and Nayonna Wright. Other positions included sophomore and junior class presidents, student activities coordinator, and executive member at large. Several students participated in questioning all candidates about topics ranging from future activities to candidate's personal conduct on social networking sites such as Facebook.

For students who are seeking information on BSU candidates, candidate profiles can be found at http://www.bowiestate.edu/spectrum. Elections for all positions will be held on Wednesday, April 8.
