| Fraternity, History and Government Department Name Essay Contest Winners Nearly $1,000 in scholarship prizes were awarded to students participating in the 2nd Annual Historical Figures Essay Contest, event organizers said. Robin Handy took home the $200 first place award, Kyle Edwards earned the $150 award and third-place winners Cynthia Gross and Jonique Holcomb each took the $100 prize, said Dr. Sammye Miller, department chair. A $75 special honorable mention award was presented to Chrishana Heath, Jamal Barbari and Martin Booker as well as a $50 honorable mention prize to Shantel Thorne, Cheryl Braddy, Brittany Mitchell and Victoria Harris, Miller said The students explored the theme "From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream to President Obama's Run for Candidacy and His Reality as President of the Free World." The event's sponsor was the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Judges included Dr. Christopher Bishop, Major John Drakeford, Dr. Monika Gross, Mrs. Vera Chesley and Dr. Frankie Hutton, Miller said.
