Second Annual Leadership and Service Awards Program

Bowie State University held its 2nd Annual Leadership and Service Awards program in the Center for Learning and Technology on May 4. Undergraduate students, graduate students, student organizations, and BSU staff and faculty members were recognized for their leadership on campus in 21 different categories. Each category notified nominees, and the winners were announced at the ceremony. In addition, Special awards were given to selected students in an additional three categories. In October 2008, Nikki E. Owens, a junior at Bowie State University, received a Milton Pericles Darden III Memorial Scholarship from the Scott Lee Foundation during its First Annual Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards Reception. 
Dr. Krishnasamy's research area focuses on how media affect certain communities, specifically regarding race, class, gender, and feminist research in communication. He has taught courses in interpersonal communication, the role of mass media and society, public speaking, and intercultural communication. He has high expectations for his students and believes that success is not a limitation.
Author Lisa Smith graduated in 1980 from Bowie State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
