| A ceremony was held at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 4th, 2009. This prestigious ceremony is a special engagement that honors biological students who have shown superb academic achievement in the extremely challenging field of biology. This rewarding ceremony not only gives recognition to students for their excellence and achievement, but also aids in educational and professional advancement. Bowie State University's Gamma Lambda Chapter of Phi Sigma Biological Honor Society is one of 89 chapters devoted to the promotion of undergraduate and graduate student research and academic excellence in the biological sciences. Our current membership is composed of senior and junior undergraduate students who have demonstrated superior academic performance in the field of biology. Speaking little English, Ji-Wu Jia came to the United States with his wife and son in 1989 from Beijing, China, a society that is much more open to the world now than years ago. Home to the 2008 Olympics, Beijing is also where Jia received a bachelor’s degree in computer programming from Beijing College of Economics.
Dr. Brenda DoHarris, a native of Guyana and former chair of English at Bowie State University, is a full professor of English with a specialization in post-colonial women's literature.
