Sigma Tau Delta Inducts Five New Members

Five new members were inducted into the Bowie State University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society on March 5. The inductees included Carlton Curtis, Cynthia Gross, Bekah Oester, Tolisha Simmonds and Kenia Smith.  

            The celebration included poems read by the Nu Nu Chapter President Jasmine Harris and Dr. Hoke Glover before the honorees recited a pledge and were officially sworn in. The organization's faculty advisor is Dr. Renee Shea and the vice president is Amy Roberson.

            The Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society is a program that started in 1976 at Bowie State University. The purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is to encourage mastery of written expression, to encourage worthwhile reading, and to foster a spirit of fellowship among men and women specializing in English. To be eligible for membership in this society, a student must be either an English major or minor, must have taken at least two literature courses beyond the freshman requirements, must have a 3.0 average in English, must rank in the highest 35 percent of their class in general scholarship, and must have completed three semesters of university work.
