| SGA President and Vice President Candidates: Jamin Gallman and Rhonetta Brooks By Brittany Summers It's that time of year again...ELECTIONS season. This is where it all begins. The campaigning, advertising, programming, fundraisers, giveaways; it all starts now. Election season has begun here on the campus of Bowie State University and the candidates have hit the ground running. As you enter the Wiseman Student Center at Bowie State University there are posters covering the walls with the pictures of the new candidates running for office for the 2011-2012 academic school year. Jamin Gallman and Rhonetta Brooks are running for the positions of SGA President and Vice President. Jamin currently serves as the vice president of SGA while Rhonetta serves as the executive secretary. Together, these two plan to take BSU to the next level. When asked why they decided to run for office together, the two stated, "We decided to run together because we both are hard-working, dedicated, passionate people whose leadership styles complement each other perfectly. We also share the same vision in taking Bowie State University to the next level." Both Jamin and Rhonetta have big plans for BSU and are confident that together they can make a difference. Their platform is based on three key core values: passion, dedication, and innovation. With these values, they plan to address traditional University issues with unique and innovative methods and techniques. "Our platform is based on the idea to develop, implement, and inspire permanent solutions. Our focus is to challenge and address outdated infrastructures and to create sustainable systems that will produce solutions for years to come. We believe that reaffirming pride and cultivating leadership are key in developing a new generation of traditional and non-traditional student-leaders across the campus. We are committed to affecting change that will last!" Both students seem extremely passionate about BSU and its well being. They have the necessary experience, confidence, and attitudes that will enhance the university as a whole. This team of intelligent and dedicated individuals plan to bring "Passion, dedication and innovation to the campus of Bowie State University." With those three areas they hope to increase campus moral and excitement on campus, and to add a sense of reassurance to the campus of BSU. One minor problem that we face here at Bowie State is the lack of student involvement. Rhonetta and Jamin plan to tackle this issue as well. "The primary way we plan to have more student involvement on campus is to increase pride and moral on campus. More students will get excited and involved in campus activities if they enjoyed their time at Bowie and their experiences. We also plan to increase programming and more student-involvement opportunities." Although this dynamic duo has great plans for BSU, they have competition to face. When asked what they believe sets them apart from their opponents, they stated, "We know that we are passionate students-leaders who love to serve the students of Bowie State University. We are strategic, analytical, futuristic, genuine, passionate advocators and visionaries with a proven track record of student leadership on campus. Most importantly we are bulldogs who truly love student leadership and love Bowie State University." Jamin and Rhonetta are excited about the possible opportunity to serve the students of BSU, they love this university and all of the opportunities it has afforded them. "We love that Bowie State University is a place full of opportunities. It does not matter who you are, or where you come from because Bowie State provides everyone an equal opportunity to succeed. I have never seen a place where so many great students have risen above the odds to succeed." Jamin and Rhonetta plan to continue that legacy of opportunities to the student body here at Bowie State University. |
