| Feeling a Change at BSU By: Armond Hodge There's a different feeling on campus this year. You can sense the changes that have been made or many changes that are in the making. Just think about it. We have an extremely big freshman class this year, more people are staying on campus this year, but at the same time the number of commuter students has increased tremendously. So in other words Bowie's student population has increased. Even when you walk into the Wiseman Center you can see many changes. The game room has a new feeling to it. There's a different staff, more people are in there now, and they have even painted it. Even when you walk pass or into the SGA office there's even a sense of change. The walls are different; it really feels like you're walking into a real executive's office. Our campus has even new professors as well. Sure that's good but it's also sad that some professors that have been at Bowie State for years have decided to leave or retire. Even the new Theatre Arts building is almost completed. This is one major change that students, many of the staff and professors are looking forward to. Even though school began a couple weeks ago, you can see how our campus has got a boost of school spirit. If you haven't noticed we have already had a number of parties and different types of events going on campus. New organizations have been created as well. You can tell that our university wanted the different classes to be more unified and feel closer to each other. Oh yea, and let's not forget about the new Provost, the new athletic director and the new ROTC leader that have joined our BSU family. Even our football stadium looks different. Our football team has the luxury to play on a brand new field. Some might say change is bad, but this time I think that change is good. Many of these changes were needed and have been desired by the staff and the students. But, some of these changes many people thought they were things that needed to be done than more than desired. As I sit back and look back at the past couple of weeks that have already passed, I think this is going to be a very promising year at Bowie State. But most of all I think this is going to be a unifying year as well. I think Bowie is finally becoming a big family that a lot people wanted. |
