Editor's Note: The Spirit of Homecoming

By Armand Hodge

So it's that time of year again.  No not midterms, not just yet and no not time to get your refund check, but almost.  It's almost time for Homecoming 2010.  Not just here at Bowie but at other colleges in the area.  Besides BSU, Morgan State, Towson, UMBC, University of Maryland College Park and Howard University will all celebrate this annual rite of fall. Homecoming buzz is already looming around the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan area.

Just recently I sat down with some of my friends who attend Howard and Towson University.  Now, of course they know who is going to be at Bowie during our homecoming, and yes, I know who is going to be at theirs.  It's just so funny how colleges always try to outdo each other around homecoming.  I can't lie; I want our homecoming to outdo other colleges.  Not to be cocky or anything, but I really think our school will have one of the best homecomings in the area.  But homecoming isn't a time to outdo each other.  Homecoming is a time when all the alumni can come back, celebrate and reminisce about the good times they had when they attended the university.  It's also a time when alumni and current students can enjoy many of university's activities and at the same time celebrate what their university means to them.  Most of all it's a time when all the students can get to know each other.  After a rain out last year, hopefully this year doesn't turn out the same way.  Homecoming this year is what people call a year of change.  We have more activities, more events, and even some big performances.  Bowie State's homecoming is going to be live this year.  The funny thing is that our homecoming theme is a live atmosphere.  "Bowie LIVE, all the way turned up," sounds interesting.  If you want more info go the homecoming website www.hc10.bowiestatesga.com.  Trust and believe homecoming this year is going to be all the way turned up.  Get ready to party Bowie family; you're not going to want to miss this.
