Lady Bulldogs Gear Up for New Volleyball Season
By Chanel Tate The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is ready for a great season to show their opponents what they have been waiting for—a loss against the Bulldogs. The season started with a win against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, but a loss against the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University. As the game began, the first serve from Jasmine Nixon of the Lady Bulldogs was the first point of the game. The crowd went wild and started cheering BSU. The Lady Bulldogs were excited and each player appeared to have her eye on the prize. As the game continued the Lady Panthers took the lead. The Lady Panthers bought their A game and wanted the Lady Bulldogs to do the same. As the crowd of Bowie State continued to encourage the home team, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to fight back against their opponent. With the score of 8-20, the Lady Panthers led the first half of the game. Throughout the game, the Lady Panthers showed good technique and had great communication among the players on the floor. Clearly, the Lady Bulldogs had no plans to give up without a fight. Both teams had a brief moment with their coaches, and BSU was back on the court to fight for victory. Freshman Cara Nance and junior Jasmine Nixon led Bowie State with nine and seven kills respectively. Nance also led the BSU Lady Bulldogs in digs with eight and service aces with three. Freshman Paige McIntosh led Bowie State in assists, recording 15 in the setback. But it wasn’t enough. The Lady Panthers made big plays for their team to hold the lead. The Lady Bulldogs tried to stage a comeback by keeping their opponents on their toes. But VUU didn’t want to leave BSU without an upset. The Lady Panthers took home the victory with final score of 13-25, 23-25 and 13-25. |
