Lady Bulldogs' Play is InconsistentBy Courtney Walker With college volleyball quickly coming to an end for five of the eleven Lady Bulldogs, they cherish each and every game no matter how good or bad they do.
Coming back with a bang, the Lady Bulldogs swept the Lady Tigers of St. Paul College. With scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17, the Lady Bulldogs made it clear just how bad they wanted the win. Every team has a leader and senior, Alycia Williams-Chase, showed her leadership abilities with 12 Kills, three aces as well as three digs. Also a senior, Jasmine McNair followed behind Williams-Chase with nine kills, two aces and five digs. Tied with six kills each, Bethany Sloat and Tamira Conner Rogers also made a big contribution to the win over the Lady Tigers. This was all made possible because of setter, Itumeleng Shadreck, who made 29 beautiful sets. We all know there is no "I" in Team, so as a team, the Lady Bulldogs made 38 kills, 14 aces, and 28 digs. After this big victory, the Lady Bulldogs move their record to 12-8 overall and 7-4 CIAA. Because the Lady Bulldogs are not as consistent as need be, they lost 3-2 against Shepherd University. Scoring 25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 25-21, the Lady Bulldogs hung in there with the Rams until the final game with a score of 15-7. With 13 kills, four aces, and 14 digs, Jasmine McNair fought hard along with Alycia Williams-Chase and Bethany Sloat. Williams-Chase ended with 10 kills, six aces, and 10 digs. Sloat did just as well with 12 kills, one ace and six digs. Although McNair, Williams-Chase, and Sloat were the leading scorers, Tamira Conner Rogers contributed eight kills, one ace and 14 digs. Setter, Shadreck, had four kills, four aces, and 15 digs as well. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs had 49 kills, 41 aces, and 80 digs. Although those are very good stats it just was not enough for a victory over the Rams. Eventually, Alycia Williams-Chase, Jasmine McNair, Tamira Conner Rogers, Bethany Sloat and Kendra Harris will be gone from the team so the Lady Bulldogs will have to rebuild. The returning players will have to take lead and teach the new players how to be a team so they can come back strong as ever. Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs only have one more home game left which is Senior Night. I'm sure the seniors want the last home game to be a pleasant one so come out and cheer them on to victory on October 30, 2008 at 7pm in the A.C. Jordan Arena. |
