Lady Bulldogs Are on a Roll

            On Saturday the Lady Bulldogs were victorious for the fifth game in a row against the Lady Bears of Shaw University.  The two teams matched up in Raleigh, NC inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.  This was the final game in a three game road trip for the Lady Bulldogs.  They were victorious by just a single field goal.  The final score of the game was 57-55 in the Lady Bulldogs favor.

 

            At the half, the Lady Bulldogs were ahead 27-21 despite being out-rebounded by seven in the first half.  However, they had forced Shaw to 15 turnovers.  In result, they were able to score 14 points from the turnovers.  Both teams also shot 9/30 (30%) from the field.  Safe to say, they started off slow.

 

            The second half was started with a 7-0 Lady Bears run to take a 28-27.  Spurts like this took place all game and kept things on edge for all players.  The Lady Bulldogs increases their shooting to 46% from the field and held the Lady Bears to 36%.  They managed to takeover defensively, but it was still not enough to pull away.

 

            The game came down to free throws while tied at 55 points a piece.  Shana Andrus of Shaw missed both shots from the line, though the second one was intentional, it did not hit the rim.  This resulted in a violation and a Lady Bulldogs victory.

 

            Offensively, the Lady Bulldogs were led by Brittney Jackson who scored 14 points.  Following her lead were both Lakisha Walker and Denisha Kenion.  Walker and Kenion both had 10 points and six boards in the game.  Kenion also managed to add four assists to her statistics.

 

            For the Lady Bears, Shana Andrus scored 10 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four big turnovers.  Ashley Jackson also had a near double-double with 19 points and eight rebounds.

 

            The Lady Bulldogs next take the floor on Valentine's Day against Saint Paul's College.  This game will take place in A.C. Jordan Arena at 2pm sharp.  It will be their last home game until the CIAA' tournament begins.
