Over spring break, the Lady Bulldogs softball team kicked their season off against Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. The game took place right here in Bowie, Md. The Rock swept the Lady Bulldogs 12-5 and 7-2, ruining their home and season opener. In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs were only allowed three hits by pitcher Shaylee Lanno.
Four days later, March 18th, the Lady Bulldogs took on West Chester University of Pennsylvania. In the first game the Lady Bulldogs picked up a close 4-3 victory, then dropped the second game 7-4. Senior Virginia Hockey led their defense with 10 putouts. This match gave them their first win but their third lost.
They then made three game North Carolina road trip first facing Johnson C. Smith University which is located in Charlotte. It is here that they displayed how dominant they have the potential to be. They demolished the competition in both games, 10-2 then 16-1. The Lady Bulldogs had 18 hits total in game one alone.
The second game of this road trip was none other than conference rival Livingstone College. They continued to display their dominance, in an even more exaggerated fashion. In the first game between these two teams they blew Livingstone out 25-0. The second time around they let up just a little a bit and defeated them 21-0. This put them on a winning streak that they would attempt to keep throughout the final match of their road trip.
Last but not least came Fayetteville State University. In the first match, the Lady Bulldogs manage to pull off a 10-5 victory. The 12 hits they had a big part in their victory in game one. However, game two was taken by Fayetteville State. It was a tight 1-0 win because of the defensive efforts of both squads.
Games against Shaw University, Columbia Union College, and Saint Augustine's College have been postponed due to rain. No specific date has been made for the Shaw or Columbia Union games. Their game against Saint Augustine will be played on March 30th at 2pm.
