The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs softball team ended its regular season with a 26-6 record. The CIAA Champions now await a call from the NCAA to see where they will play in the NCAA Atlantic Region playoffs set for May 8-10, according to university athletic officials.

In the last games of regular season action, the Lady Bulldogs beat the Columbia Union College Lady Pioneers 11-1 and 9-1 in nonconference softball action, improving BSU to 26-6 on the year.

Columbia Union (4-24) squandered a chance to put pressure on the Lady Bulldogs in the top of the first inning, but was unable to finish against the three-time CIAA champions.

BSU's Lady Bulldogs put the visiting Lady Pioneers away in a game one, putting nine runs on the scoreboard in the first inning. The Bowie State slaughtered the Lady Pioneers' pitching staff, sending 13 batters to the plate and knocking out nine hits. From that point on, the Lady Bulldogs never looked back.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play a softball doubleheader at Howard University at 2 p.m. today, however the game was cancelled, athletic officials said.

BSU clinched the championship after scoring eight runs over the first three innings and cruised to a 9-1 victory over Fayetteville State University in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship game earlier this month in Petersburg, Va.

It was the Lady Bulldogs' third consecutive league championship, causing the team to advance to the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament May 8-10 at a location to be determined. In its previous two trips to the double-elimination regional event, Bowie State failed to win a game.
