Struggles on Top of Struggles for Lady Bulldogs

By Clarence Conaway

The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team has once again fallen upon hard times. They are currently on a five game losing streak after it appeared that they might have found their stride after defeating Johnson C. Smith. However, since that victory they have been swept in several CIAA contests without.

These teams that have overwhelmed the Lady Bulldogs are Livingstone College, Saint Augustine's, Chowan, Fayetteville University, and Elizabeth City State.  Each of these teams defeated the Lady Bulldogs 3-0.

It seems as if the problem is that the Lady Bulldogs get off to a slow start and then find themselves having to win consecutive games to win the match. Due to the energy they exert in trying to come back, they don't have the energy to take control.

In fact, the Lady Bulldogs have found themselves behind after the first game in 14 of their 15 matches. More importantly, the Lady Bulldogs have found themselves behind after the second game on 14 of their 15 matches. If the Lady Bulldogs can start off with a win on the first game or bring things to a tie with their second game, they will finish the season on a very strong note. As a matter of fact, the match against Johnson C. Smith that the Lady Bulldogs won was the only match that the Lady Bulldogs got off to a fast start.

All is not lost, the Lady Bulldogs still have several CIAA games left as well as several home games left and they are more than capable of turning things around.  It will take much effort but it can be done.
