BSU Greek Basketball Tournament
By Kira Ward Bowie State's Greek organizations came together for a Greek basketball tournament during homecoming week, one of the many events that helped kick off the celebration. The game was open to everyone and the crowd was filled with freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as other homecoming visitors who came to enjoy a nice, old-fashioned game of basketball. The game began with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. playing against Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., adding a very interesting dimension to the game by combining teams. It was a close game at first but in the end the Kappas and the AKAs walked away with the victory for that game, bringing on the next teams. This time it was Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. against Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. The men of Iota Phi Theta won, qualifying them to play Kappa Alpha Psi for the final victory. Spectators cheered their favorite teams and anticipation grew during the closing seconds of the final game. Iota Phi Theta did in fact take home the final victory in the game, but all the Greeks came together to show great sportsmanship. |
