BSU Tennis Team Ready to Serve Up Some Heat in 2010By Quentin Deon Wright The Lady Bulldogs' Tennis Team are expected to make a lot of noise at this year's 2010 CIAA Tennis Championships. Senior team captain Danielle Fields will lead the Lady Bulldogs into the 2010 season with a positive attitude hoping to be contenders for the 2010 CIAA Championship. The Lady Bulldogs also have some key players returning to the court including Lydia Mahon, Jasmine McNair, and Chelyce Fields weathering the perfect storm to be CIAA Tennis Champions. Junior co-captain Kyara Lombre took third place in a singles match and third place in the doubles match along with her partner Chelyce Fields at the 2009 CIAA Tennis Championship. This year, she's ready to press her advantage on the court. The Spectrum: What are your predictions for the 2010 Tennis Season? Lombre: Our goal and predictions is to be the best we can be as a team, we are going to give it all that we have and try to come out No. 1 in the CIAA Conference. The Spectrum: As a junior co-captain what are some of your responsibilities? Lombre: My major responsibility is to help organize practices and notify other teammates of events and help solve conflicts and relay messages. Communication with coaches and being very personable are a few more responsibilities. The Spectrum: What aspect of tennis would you like to improve on? Lombre: I would like to improve and work on my strategy and have better ball placement. Tennis is like a game of chess you have to be mentally strategic to play this game. But assistant coaches Paul Brown and Shawn Cummings have been very supportive of me getting better throughout my tennis career. I also would like to add that I hope everyone comes out and supports the team. I would like to thank my head coach and my teammates for everything. |
