BSU Tennis Team Serves Up a Loss, Before Bowing Out

Bowie State University topped Elizabeth City State University 5-3 in the initial contest of the first day of the Women's Tennis Championships on April 15 at the Virginia State Tennis Complex.

The Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Krystyan Fleming earned the third match point for ECSU with a No. 2 singles victory (6-2, 6-0) against Lydia Mahon. However, BSU snatched wins in singles three through six; plus No. 2 doubles victory by Kyara Lombre and Chelyce Fields for the Lady Bulldogs to advance.

However, the Lady Bulldogs' winning streak was short lived. The women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 semi-final decision to Shaw University on April 16, eliminating the Lady Bulldogs from the CIAA Spring Championships.

On the singles' side, BSU senior Jessica Bond of Silver Spring, Md., defeated Lakevia Ingram of Virginia State in straight sets 6-4 and 6-3 to capture the No. 5 singles title.
