Crazy Year in College Football

By Maurice Berry

In football you can never know what can happen week to week. That is the exciting thing about college football because one or two plays can change the whole outlook. With the BCS rankings being in its second week, it's do or die time because one loss can have you scoreboard watching the rest of the season. When you are number one you are going to get everyone's best shot.

For Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma they had to learn the hard way. As for the first time in a long time and maybe ever since the BCS format was created you have had three Number Ones knocked off. The first to be knocked off was Alabama at the hands of South Carolina. Next was Ohio State who was knocked off by conference rival Wisconsin. The third victim would be Oklahoma this past Saturday night losing to Missouri and turning the BCS into a tail spin. Auburn is the new Number One but being in the SEC, it is going to be a dog fight tying to win out to make in to the Championship game in January.  For the Tigers to make it they would pretty much have to go unbeaten the rest of the season and win in the SEC championship game.

The Ducks of Oregon sit at Number Two and have a great opportunity to make it to the national championship. There is not a conference championship game in the PAC 10 so the Ducks will just have to win out and win the regular season title. A number of times are still in the hunt including unbeaten Michigan State, the previously mentioned Missouri Tigers, Boise State and TCU. Let's not forget about the defending champs, Alabama, who has one lost but if the win out and win the SEC championship game will still be in the hunt. The SEC is a power conference and in many eyes the best conference in the country, they would pass even an unbeaten Boise State or TCU. It's not fair but the voters and the computer system will look at the body of work. If you look at the teams that Alabama will have to beat the teams the lesser conferences would beat, it's not even close. The one thing that is helping Boise's case right now is that Virginia Tech is getting hot and looks like a threat to make it to the Acc championship game. No matter how things finish out, people will end up screaming playoffs like never before because someone is going to end up getting robbed.
