The Master of Arts degree and Certificate for Advanced Study in School Psychology is a 60 credit hour program that trains candidates to become competent and caring practitioners in the field of school psychology. In order assist schools in promoting high levels of academic achievement among diverse student populations, the program offers a strong foundation in psychological theories, counseling, psychoeducational assessment, intervention techniques, consultation processes, and practica. Practicum students will work directly with children and educational professionals under the guidance of a certified school psychologist. All students will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of statistics and research and will learn professional ethics and legislation relevant to the educational system. Courses will be available during the afternoon and evening primarily, and a limited number of courses will be offered during the summer sessions. Completion of the MA/Certificate of Advanced Study sequence will qualify the student for certification as a School Psychologist in the State of Maryland.
