The Master of Arts degree and Certificate for Advanced Study in School Psychology (MA/CAS) is a 60-credit hour program that trains candidates to become competent and caring practitioners in the field of school psychology. IN order to assist schools in promoting high levels of academic achievement among diverse student populations, the program offers a strong foundation in psychological theories, counseling, psycho-educational assessment, cultural competencies, consultation processes, intervention techniques and field practica. All students will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of statistics and research and will learn professional ethics and legislation relevant to the educational system. Practicum students will work directly with children and educational professionals under the guidance of a certified school psychologist. Courses are typically offered during the evening; however, candidates should be prepared to complete field experience during the day. Occasionally, a school psychology core course will be offered during the day or on Saturday and a limited number of courses will be offered during the summer sessions. Candidates enter into a 1200 clock hour internship experience after completion of all coursework. Completion of the MA/CAS sequence will enable the candidate to apply for school psychology certification in the State of Maryland. | CORE COURSES |
