It's a craze, it's a sensation, and oftentimes an obsession! Golf—it's sweeping black America and Bowie State University off their feet!

Bowie State University's Business Golf Club was founded by Dr. Shelton Rhodes, chair, Department of Management, Marketing and Public Administration, in the spring of 2004 to stimulate interest in golf among students who wish to have the edge on networking opportunities with colleagues and socialites. The first officers of the club were Stefon Moore, president, Marcus Skelton, vice president, and Derek Lymus, treasurer.

Professor Roy Reese, a golf scholar and skilled golf instructor, volunteered to serve as the golf club instructor. After just one lesson with Professor Reese, some students were able to hit the ball down range. Professor Reese has provided countless hours of free lessons to students, which would cost $50.00 or more per hour from a golf instructor.

Playing golf is a major selling point and increasingly becoming the predominant form of recreation among black America. Surprisingly, black women are among the most passionate supporters of the game. John David, president and founder of the Multicultural Golf Association of America, says, "There is a tremendous request from females to get involved in this sport and to learn the game and its attributes and how it can empower them."

The BSU Golf Club invites you to participate in learning the game of golf, which is like the game of life—full of joy and frustration. Golf is a humbling game that teaches perseverance, discipline, and networking skills.
